Sizes at a glance
Hearth Gift does not sell clothing. On this site, “size” means how big a sign, mat or board is. These are all the sizes we offer:
- Framed signs: 8×8 in, 10×10 in, 12×12 in and, on two signs, 16×24 in.
- Doormats: 24×16 in, 30×20 in and 36×24 in.
- Cutting board: 8×12 in and 11×17 in.
- Metal sign: 12 in, 18 in and 24 in wide.
- Fixed sizes: pillow cover 18×18 in (insert not included), keepsake box 12x12x5 in, candy jar 20 oz, mug 11 oz, acrylic memorial sign 24×16 in.
- The price changes with the size you select on the product page. If a size turns out wrong, you have 60 days to return it, with a free return label.
Before you measure: two minutes with a tape measure
Most sizing regrets come from guessing. A sign that looked generous on a phone screen can feel small above a long sofa, and a mat that seemed modest can cover the threshold of a narrow apartment door. A quick measurement of the spot, plus a paper template, solves almost all of it.
Make a paper template
Cut a piece of paper or flattened moving-box cardboard to the size you are considering, such as 12×12 in, and tape it to the wall or lay it on the floor where the item will go. Leave it for an evening. You will know quickly whether it feels right, crowded or lost. New homes usually have a few spare boxes around, and this is one of their better uses.
Measure the space, not the furniture
For a wall, measure the clear area you want the sign to sit in, not the whole wall. For a mantel or shelf, measure the depth as well as the width, and remember the frame sits in front of whatever is behind it. For a doorway, measure the opening of the door itself.
Measurements we do not publish
The sizes on this page are the sizes named in each product’s options. We do not list other measurements, such as frame depth, weight or the size of the printed area. If one of those matters for your space, email us before ordering and tell us the product and size.
Framed signs: from a bookshelf to above the sofa
Most framed signs come in three square sizes. The Family Name Established Framed Sign adds a fourth, 16×24 in, and the Our First Home Landscape Framed Sign comes in 16×24 in only. Every framed sign offers five frame colors: Natural, Walnut, Black, Grey and White.

Choosing between two square sizes
If you are torn between 10×10 in and 12×12 in, think about how far away people will usually stand. A sign by the front door is read from a step or two, so the smaller size is often enough. A sign on a living-room wall is seen from across the room, so the larger size usually reads better. On a mantel, a single sign tends to look best at 12×12 in, while two or three signs side by side often suit 8×8 in or 10×10 in.
Long names on small signs
The Family Name Established Framed Sign holds a family name of up to 18 characters in capitals and an established year from 1900 to 2099. A short name like “THE LEES” has plenty of room at any size. A longer one like “THE HARRINGTONS” fits too, but the live preview will show you how it sits. If the text looks tight at 8×8 in, try the preview at 10×10 in before deciding.
Memorial signs
The In Loving Memory Name & Dates Framed Sign comes in 8×8 in, 10×10 in and 12×12 in. Many people keep it on a shelf or a bedside table, where 8×8 in or 10×10 in sits quietly, and choose 12×12 in for a wall or a mantel. The Forever by Our Side Pet Memorial Framed Sign comes in 8×8 in and 10×10 in, sizes that suit the corner where a dog or cat used to sleep, or a windowsill. There is no right answer here, only the place that feels right to you.
Doormats: measure the door, then choose
All four doormats come in the same three sizes: the Family Name Established Doormat, the Roofline Welcome Doormat, the Shoes Off, Come On In Doormat and the Grandparents’ House Open Door Doormat.

How to measure a doorway
- Open the door and measure the width of the opening from one side of the frame to the other.
- Close the door and measure how much clear floor there is in front of it, out to the edge of the step, porch or landing.
- Choose the mat whose width is close to the opening without being wider than the step or landing, and whose depth leaves room to stand.
- Check that the door clears the mat when it opens. Inward-opening doors are rarely an issue, but some apartment doors open outward.

We do not make claims about outdoor or weather suitability. If the mat will sit on an open porch, email us before ordering and we will share what we can.
Kitchen and table: cutting boards and serving pieces
The Home Sweet Home House Cutting Board comes in two sizes and three woods: Maple, Walnut and Red Oak.
8×12 in
A good size for a small kitchen, a first apartment counter or a cheese-and-crackers board for two. It also suits display on a narrow shelf or leaning against a backsplash.
11×17 in
Better for larger counters and for serving a group. If the board is a housewarming gift for a couple who love to host, the larger size is usually the one they will reach for.

Metal sign widths and the fixed-size gifts
Welcome to Our Home Metal Sign
The Welcome to Our Home Metal Sign comes in 12 in, 18 in and 24 in wide, in Black, Silver, Copper or White. As a rough guide, 12 in suits a narrow wall beside a door or a spot above a light switch, 18 in suits the space above an entry bench or a hall table, and 24 in suits a broad wall or the area above a wide doorway. Hold a strip of paper of the same width against the wall to see it in place. If hanging hardware matters to you, email us before ordering.

Ornaments, the journal, the acrylic tabletop plaque and the coasters are not sold in different sizes, and we do not publish further measurements for them. Email us if you need a specific dimension.
Choosing a size for a gift you cannot measure
Housewarming gifts are often bought for a home you have not seen yet. When you cannot measure the wall or the door yourself, these habits help.
Ask a casual question
“Is your front door a single or a double?” or “Is it an apartment?” is an easy question to slip into a conversation, and the answer is usually enough to choose between 24×16 in, 30×20 in and 36×24 in for a mat. For an apartment, 24×16 in is the safe choice. For a house with a single front door, 30×20 in is the usual fit.
Lean toward the middle size
For a framed sign, 10×10 in is the most flexible size when you do not know the room. It suits a shelf, a mantel or a short stretch of wall, and it rarely looks too small or too large. The 16×24 in size makes the most sense when you know there is a clear wall above a sofa, a bed or a sideboard waiting for something.
Pick sizes that need no decision

Remembrance gifts
For a memorial sign given to someone else, a smaller size is often the kinder choice, because it can sit on a shelf or bedside table without needing a dedicated wall. The person receiving it can decide where it belongs. The Memorial Keepsakes collection shows every option.
If the size is not right after all
Even after careful measuring, a sign can look different on the wall than it did in your head. You have 60 days to return any product, including personalized items. For a change of mind we provide a free return label, and there is no restocking fee. We issue your refund within 7 days of receiving the return, to the original payment method, or store credit if you prefer, which never expires. If you picked the wrong size and noticed within 24 hours of ordering, email us right away. A size can be changed within that window, as explained on Cancel or Change an Order.
